Stunning photos of Qatar’s Hamad International Airport…wow!

Soon after publishing my ‘Public Response to New Doha International Airport’s New Name’ article, I received an email with some eye-catching images of the forthcoming aviation hub, which I wanted to share!

A look inside Hamad International Airport in Doha
I've included a couple of photos on this page - the rest have been uploaded on my Facebook page - with 23 images in total.

As you can see, New Doha Hamad International Airport looks stunning and should be a treat for passengers once its first phase opens on 1st April 2013 (and yes, I’ve read a load of comments on various websites about it being April Fools’ Day!).

The multi-billion dollar facility will be operated by Qatar Airways, although 12 different airlines have been selected as launch carriers, including some low-cost operators. Qatar Airways will actually move its operations there in the second half of this year.

HOK designed the airport’s three-storey main passenger terminal and five concourses. Looking at the photos, it’s little wonder that Abdul Aziz Al Noiami, chairman of Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA), predicted that Hamad International Airport would become “a global showpiece that the State of Qatar will justifiably be proud of”.

The First Class Spa... fancy a dip?
“I am delighted to say that we have indeed succeeded in living up to the vision of His Highness The Emir, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani to create a world-class international gateway that will firmly put our country on the global stage,” Al Noiami was quoted as saying in a press release.

“2005 seems like only yesterday when the foundation stone was laid for work to start on the new airport project. Eight years on and we are just weeks away from the latest chapter in the airport’s history with the start of operations.

“A new workplace and stunning architectural masterpiece will enhance the skyline of Doha providing new surroundings for airport employees and the travelling public from around the world.”

I’ve actually been trying to locate a source for these photos, so that I can credit them, but unfortunately I’ve not had any luck so far… if you know, please get in touch.

As always, please feel free to share your comments on the photos here, and you can also get in touch on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ - I look forward to connecting with you!

  3. Looks great. I didn't see the gates. Does anyone know if DOH will continue to bus passengers or are there real gates/ bridges?

  4. Pictures look great. Do you know who owns the IPR to the pictures and whether they can be used in a tender we are currently doing for teh airport?

  6. Thank you for sharing Robeel. Stunning. What makes this development all the more impressive is its comparison to the former terminal - which I passed through on a few occasions in recent years. Do you have photos of that to show others what I mean?

  9. A truly stunning airport. Having worked there for a short while in 2011 the project is astonishing and the result looks magnificent. This does not give an impression of the scale of the whole airport which dwarfs anything we will ever see in western Europe.

Congratulations to all involved in the building and transition to this amazing airport. The operation will take Qatar another leap forward in global aviation.

  10. Looking at the two photos attached, I can only say the Terminal looks Trendy enough. But the Big Question is if the Passengers will only get hypnotized by looks or they will do the Litmus Test by weighing the Service Quality of the Airport Community at Doha.

Indeed if the Service provider and airlines wish they may join hand to make this Terminal a Great place to Travel or else it becomes any other modern monument around the globe.

Good Luck to all at Hamad Int Apt.

  12. The middle East has indisputably set the global terminal architectural bar too high for the industry. Wow!

  13. Amazing. Truly a master piece. Questions if I may, are they still hiring and what is the process? Once again, it's a marvel of an airport.

It is mind boggling to see Qatar's Hamad International Airport. Having worked in DIA during 2004 and 2005 with just ten Boarding Gates, I am thrilled to look at the photos and wonder how I would feel when I really visit Doha. This will be the best in the world in every area. Will eagerly await the opportunity to visit the airport.

  16. And the best about it is: it really looks like that and there will be more fantastic locations at the airport! It´s breathtaking to follow the daily developments.

  18. I am looking forward to the opening of the new DOHA airport - of course this airport will set a bench mark for all airports and raise the bar appreciably. Wishing the project a success.

  19. Wow is right - very impressive....

  20. The new airport has contact gates with some areas for remote gates when the demand gets there.
If you're interested in a job, now is the time to start looking. Facilities Maintenance and operations positions should be available. Unfortunately, I can't provide any direct links to opportunities. Qatar Airways is the first place to start.

  21. Very impressive, indeed. Congratulations to Qatar and not the least Qatar Airways. However, Airports are not only architectural landmarks, they are also businesses (profit generators) and a piece of infrastructure to support a lot of logistical processes. If the new DOH will work like the other airports in the Middle East region, it will only be what it is - an architectural landmark, and only that.

  22. It certainly looks fancy. I don't know how much it cost but I can bet it was a pretty penny. Anyway, it's not like they can't afford it.

I think every nation wants to show their best to the world and there is no better place to do it than at the airport. People who are entering the country for business or other purposes get a good first impression and those who are just passing through to connect to another flight will also form a good impression of the country.
