Aeroflot, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2013, received a brand new Airbus A320 this week.

The aircraft has been named “P. Yablochkov” after the famous Russian electrical engineer Pavel Nikolayevich Yablochkov.

Although I’ve never heard of the man, Aeroflot states he invested the “Yablochkov candle”, which is the earliest commercially successful electric carbon arc lamp… so that’s your historical fact of the day!

Anyway, back to the aviation stuff… with the recent arrival of “P. Yablochkov”, the Aeroflot fleet includes a total of 85 Airbus A319/320/321 aircraft, with an average age of 4.9 years.

The aircraft, which are operated on European and Russian domestic destinations, have been designed in two-class configurations and can carry 116 (A319), 140 / 158 (A320) and 170 (A321) passengers.

“Airbus A320 family airplanes satisfy the highest reliability, safety and comfort standards and are one of the best for mid-range flights,” stated Aeroflot in a press release.

  2. Aeroflot is upgrading its planes constantly. You can see that by the number of Russians that are traveling constantly from and to Russia.
My company had an exhibition in Moscow, between the 11th and 14th of April and they told me that Sheremetevo Airport(Moscow) was full!
