Boeing has been receiving a lot of coverage on TheAviationWriter.com this week! First, I posted an article with images of the China Southern Airlines 787 Dreamliner (click here if you missed them), and today we’re celebrating a milestone with the 747-8 aircraft.

The 50th delivery of a Boeing 747-8 has just been completed, with Lufthansa receiving the milestone aircraft. It is the German airline's seventh 747-8 to date and its 82nd 747 as a whole.

I’ve included an image of the aircraft on this page – remember to like my Facebook page to keep updated with the latest aviation photos, videos and stories. Click here to visit.

"Lufthansa is very proud to have the next Boeing 747-8 entering our fleet – almost exactly one year after the launch flight from Frankfurt to Washington, DC," said Nico Buchholz, Executive Vice President Fleet Management, Deutsche Lufthansa AG.

"After one year of operation and now seven aircraft in the fleet, the aircraft has proven and delivered the excellent economical and ecological performance. We are very happy with the reliable operation of the 747-8."

Boeing delivered the first 747-8 Intercontinental to Lufthansa in April 2012. The airplane entered service on 1st June 2012 with a flight from Frankfurt, Germany to Washington, D.C.

Cargolux Airlines took delivery of the first 747-8 Freighter in October 2011. To date, 35 Freighters and 15 Intercontinentals, including eight of the Boeing Business Jet version, have been delivered.

  1. After exactly 40 years - April 1973 - I came from Tucson Arizona via NYC with the first LH Boeing 747 over to HAM - and see now the 50th delivery of a Boeing 747 - what a nice history - thanks to Boeing.
