During my time as the editor of Aviation Business magazine, I was lucky enough to travel on various inaugural flights, and I always enjoyed the excitement onboard as the aircraft landed at a new destination for the first time… often greeted with a traditional water canon salute to mark the occasion.

Last week, Etihad Airways celebrated its inaugural flight to Amsterdam, with the airline’s Airbus A330-200 receiving a ceremonial water cannon salute by Dutch fire engines at the Netherlands capital.

What’s more, passengers on the flight were presented with wooden tulips as a gift from Schiphol Airport to mark the historic flight.

I’ve included a photo from the inaugural flight on this page, while a photo album has been uploaded on my Facebook page – click here to view the images.

Amsterdam joins a group of 17 leading European cities that Etihad Airways flies to including Brussels, Dublin, Frankfurt, Geneva, London and Paris.
