REVEALED: Airlines with the ugliest aircraft liveries in the world

Bangkok Air's livery was rated one of the world's ugliest by The TelegraphWhich airlines have the ugliest liveries in the world? It’s a pretty subjective question… while some people might hate a particular livery, others will hate it.

However, that’s not stopped the reporters at Telegraph.co.uk at listing the world’s ugliest liveries, which I’m sure will spark a lot of debate.

The idea was sparked by the launch of Air New Zealand’s new livery this week, which comes in two different versions (most will be white with a black tail and silver fern, New Zealand's national emblem, while a limited edition version will be all black with the silver fern).

“The design is a vast improvement on the garish limited edition Hobbit-themed plane unveiled by the airline last year,” wrote Telegraph.co.uk. “In November Air New Zealand transformed a Boeing 777 into a flying billboard, ahead of the first installment of Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy. Here are some more examples of the most ghastly planes that have taken to the skies...”

Air Jamaica was included in a list of the world's ugliest liveriesSo which airlines were featured in this dreaded list? Air Jamaica was one of the carrier’s to be singled out, with Telegraph.co.uk stating “Was the designer inspired by Cool Runnings? This colour scheme would not look out of place on an early Nineties ski suit”.

Caribbean Airlines, based in Trinidad and Tobago, didn’t fare much better. “Lemon yellow and turquoise. Pass the sick bag,” stated the website in regards to the livery.

Over in Thailand, Nok Air and Bangkok Air were featured side by side. “Thais are evidently susceptible to terrible aircraft design,” was the slightly offensive remark offered.

Below is a full list of the airlines with the worst liveries, according to Telegraph.co.uk. What are your thoughts of the list? 1. I'm a fan of pretty much all the liveries listed above, they're different...

Those are some of the best liveries out there...

    1. I bet if Telegraph.co.uk had to choose the best livery around, it would be the new Japan Airlines all white one.... Idiots..

Okay, Telegraph.co.uk does not know Air Jamaica cause Air Jamaica's old livery before Caribbean bought them out was the most well known airline by livery in the air.

  7. Air Jamaica? Is that somewhere in Barbados or in Africa?

  8. I don't think liveries is so important, of course when you are going on the market you want to be different and also you need to take into consideration the area where you are flying or something traditional. Simple is the best!

  9. Air pacific, FJ, straight from the 80s. Although their recent change to Fiji Airways livery is pretty cool.

  10. Mixed thoughts on this one of course. Germanwings new colour scheme is a drastic improvement; Air Jamaica should revert to the colours their DC8s wore in the 70s/80s; Hawaiian have a great c/s! Just my opinions.

  11. S7? One of the most beautiful liveries around.

  12. Airlines perhaps do not have the finance these days to ask for highly profile branding companies to design their livery. Perhaps they should turn to Formula 1 people to form a great scheme & livery. Pity Air Zealand as their business class product is superb!

No, I think only 3 or 4 are ugly.

  14. I'm sorry but as a plane spotter I have to say you've got it all wrong! That list of yours list some of the best liveries. As for the worst, the spotter community would point you to the "euro white" liveries like for example Air France. Some even suggest it's far fetched to call that last one a livery. Lufthansa is also boring. From the non-whites, SAS springs to mind... oh and Aegean airlines too.

  15. These are eye catching, maybe ugly, but passengers always remember the Airline. Boring is not always good advertizing. Our big name Airlines should be adventurous, one or two aircraft in the fleet should be more colourful.

  16. An overwhelming majority of those actually stand out and are some of the best liveries out there. Frontier and Hawaiian listed in the top 5? They must be joking.

  17. Having worked in and around the industry for over 35 years I think liveries like United, American, US Airways (USAir) and Alaska although clean and neat are plain and ordinary. Having an unusual livery catches ones eye and also causes them to remember. I also have lived in Asia and with all the listed including Cebu pacific (especially their new A-330) is not ugly but eye catching and reminds you of some time or place that you hold important - Just a thought.

  18. I picked up that same list. Being a former Air New Zealand employee that list grabbed my attention. I think the new generic Air NZ livery is passing off another brand, and as for the worst, I have my own view. Check out the "flying tampon" livery at my blog!

  19. You did write in the article that it's all subjective, but at least post a picture of a current airline livery - Air Jamaica have changed there's since the one posted above.

Air Tahiti Nui and Hawaiian Airlines in the 10 worst liveries? Are you kidding? Compared to some of the dull Eurowhite's out there, those two have to be among the prettiest. I think these guys got their list closer to the mark, the top 10 liveries of 2013: http://thedesignair.net/2013/05/07/thedesignair-top-10-liveries-for-2013/

  20. Doesn't that show you that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think some are pretty good and there always needs to be organisations that push the boundary otherwise we would still have 1960's liveries.

  22. No I don't I think the Hobbit livery is very cool so many the Telegraph reading wouldn't know cool if hit them in the face.

  23. I think Garuda started all this off in the early 90's. Notice most of the Airlines are from the Hot climates of the Far East or Carribean, must be the feel good factor.

It is all a matter of self opinion. To me I like quite a number of those liveries. There are a number of airlines who have separate liveries on a couple of aircraft for national events. Now some of those are questionable but unfortunately not included in the list.
